From sunny Freiburg, Germany is folk newcomer, Tobias Horn.

I found Tobias through our love of the Aussie folk group, The Dreggs and upon listening to his music I would have thought he would have a similar standing next to the duo.

With only three released songs, I find myself wanting, no, needing more from this German artist.

You already know I had to reach out and see if we can get some questions answered…and no surprise here, he answered and I got the goods!

First on my mind is, why only three songs?!

He shared that working full-time, he doesn’t always have the allotted schedule for music. He is currently looking for a lead vocalist and fellow guitarist to set up performances and let out new songs. In my humblest opinion, Mr. Horn doesn’t need a second - his songs are cheery, colorful, and vivid and he has a sort of Lord Huron meets Gregory Alan Isakov meets Hollow Coves vibe.

He describes his stomping grounds as a beautiful city with great spirit - surrounded by lots of forest and nature. You hear it in his song, August 15th, where he sings, “Painted in colors, by the setting sun, the church, the trees, the sea, the sun - magic all in one. Living in a place like that I can understand where the inspiration surges through the lyrics. He does say it is “absolutely recommended” to visit…hold on, where’s my passport?!

Throughout his music, you get the sense there is more than just one Mann playing, but Tobias Horn is certainly a one-man band.

As a child, he took trumpet lessons and was a part of an orchestra. As a teenager, he and a friend later taught themselves to play guitar to form a punk band where they played gigs regularly.

The tale is as old as time…life gets in the way, the band breaks up, and people move away and attend college.

Throughout the years, Tobias’ musical tastes expanded into more singer-songwriter types of music. He also, on top of playing the trumpet and guitar, picked up the harmonica, banjo, bass, and basic drums. A musical savant, he also learned to record, mix, and master his songs all the while setting up a small home studio.

When the music is in you, it comes out whether you wish it or not.

This is also true when asked about his creative process.

Tobias leans into new music by starting with a guitar riff then expands by tweaking, getting a feel for the song he is creating, and working on the lyrics - sometimes they come as easy as breathing and sometimes it takes him a beat.

Lyrics, he says, are much harder to convey than a guitar riff.

He listed a few of his main influences and inspirations such as the aforementioned Dreggs, Ziggy Alberts, Jack Botts, Felipe Baldomir, Alivan Blue, and Dusty Boots to name a few. If he had the opportunity to simply work in the studio with either of the mentioned artists or open for them he would be on Cloud Nine. Some of his aspirations are to visit, travel, and busk beautiful places such as Australia, meet said artists and lastly, work hand-in-hand with Garrett Kato in the studio.

Currently, Tobias has been writing, recording, and releasing songs one by one. He is continuously working on new music and is looking forward to sharing!

His message to new listeners and listeners now is, “I'm incredibly grateful for the support of everyone who listens to my music and for all those who support me at any time. Thank you!”

There you have it folks, Tobias Horn!

I am excited to hear new releases and that he continues to spread such sweet and liquid-y tunes!

To Tobi, thank you so much for agreeing to be a part of this! We are all ready for more songs and more of Freiburg!
